Bookish and Black #30
Who else is ready for summer to end? This heat is killing me and I am ready for long and cozy fall days. The start of fall also always gives me major back to school vibes even though I am not in school. Though this year I am feeling like my life is back on a school schedule. Not only is my husband a teacher/coach but my baby is going to daycare. It feels like a season of change that is sorely needed is finally coming my way. I have been thinking a lot about self and how I feel like I’ve been looking for myself for four years now. Yes four! In 2018 I started grad school and it felt like I put my life on hold to dedicate myself to my program. Then in 2020, just as I thought I could start to build that life back up, Covid hit. I know that so many can relate to how this impacted us all, whether it was through the intense isolation or through the many ways we have all experienced loss during this pandemic. Then I got pregnant last year and had a baby. These past 18 months, I have given 100% of myself to my baby-first 9 months growing her and now 9 months at home. I quit my job and spend 24 hours a day with her. BUT! I am currently job hunting and planning on putting her in daycare in the next few weeks (!). It feels like this will open my life back up. Of course I’ll still be a mom but will have some flexibility to my day. Trust me, I know being a working mom is no easy thing but I am excited to work from home…alone. Here are some ways I am planning on building space for myself:
Recreating morning and evening routines. I miss doing my skincare and look forward to restarting that routine. I also used to build time in the AM for reading and it was truly the best way to start the day.
Using a planner. Listen I may be a Taurus, but my rising sign is Virgo and I live to organize and make lists. I can’t wait to shop for a new planner and to have things to write in it!
Exercise! I just haven’t had the energy to do more than go on my hot girl walks and I am excited to get back into using my Peloton.
If you feel the same, tell me how you’ll be using fall to rebuild a routine.
reading and life
I am currently trying to finish this month’s book club selection, Easy Beauty. It is a heavy read- which I have not been in the mood for. I’m looking forward to starting September with something light. Maybe this highly anticipated romance.
Speaking of doing something for myself, I went out last weekend to celebrate a friend’s birthday (a fellow Boookstagrammer) and it was so nice to spend the night chatting, eating, and enjoying the company of wonderful people. This weekend we are headed to Philadelphia for my nephew’s birthday party. Wishing you all a relaxing week.
